Chlamydia Test

An FDA Approved Urine Test is all that is required to be tested for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia.

The Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAA) test, which is FDA Approved, is the testing industry’s “gold standard” for testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia. For gonorrhea it reveals whether the Neisseria gonorrhea bacterium is in the urine.

The NAA test is also the most accurate test available for detecting chlamydia as well, searching for the presence of the chlamydia trachomatis bacterium in the urine. These tests require just a urine sample, so there is no swabbing and you don’t need to undress. You will receive your results in 1 or 2 days.

When testing for chlamydia do you draw blood or take a urine sample?

For chlamydia we can test with just a sample of your urine. There is no need for a swab for you to undress.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the test?

You will need to abstain from urinating for at least one hour before giving your urine sample.

If I think I’ve been exposed to chlamydia when should I be tested?

If you are worried that you may be infected with chlamydia, the best time for testing is from 1 to 5 days from being exposed. Waiting for at least 24 hours from possibly being exposed is best. If your test is positive you will receive treatment. Then we recommend that you repeat the chlamydia test 2 weeks after treatment to confirm that you are completely clear of the bacterium.

What can I expect my chlamydia test results to say?

If your test results report that you are negative that means that no signs of chlamydia were present in your urine. If your test results are positive then you will need to be treated for chlamydia as it was found to be in your system. If you were tested immediately after possible exposure, then it may have been too soon to detect the presence of the bacterium. We recommend waiting a minimum of 1 – 5 days after you’ve possibly been exposed.

Is chlamydia curable?

Yes it is curable and the treatment is a course of antibiotics. If you request, you may have a phone consultation with one of our doctors and at their discretion, you can receive a prescription for antibiotics sent to the pharmacy of your choice.

Who should be tested for chlamydia?
